Manure as fertilizer for hydroponics?

Forums:

Does anyone know if manure slurry can be used as fertilizer for hydroponic growing? I ask because I manage a small dairy that has manure surplus to our own requirements, and would like to have it used as a resource, and not waste. Thanks!

NOT a good idea. You can use it and brew a tea for the plants, but there is a good amount of bacteria in the manure that can give you a build up in a hydroponic set up. Best to keep the environment clean and sterile. If you have an excess then I would highly recommend composting with it or brewing a tea and using it as a spray or soil drench. Tea is a great way to break down the nutrients so the plant doesn't have to. Look up Compost brewing if you want and it out, very easy to do and plants absolutely love it!!
