How To Modify The Aerogarden Grow Light To Use Regular Bulbs

Modify Aerogarden Light

After reading about people modifying the light sockets on the Aerogarden I decided to give it a try and switch the sockets to normal medium sockets.  As you can see in the photo above my Aerogarden is now using normal CFL grow lights.  These lights are way more powerful than the original Aerogarden lights.  I'm growing a red robin tomato plant under two 42 watt 6500K CFL lights.  They are the biggest that you can fit once the unit is modified.  I just used ordinary ceramic medium light sockets that I bought for a few dollars at the local hardware store.  I had to create a special aluminum flashing to go around the socket to hold it in place.  I used a product called JB Weld to cement the sockets to the lamp hold.  It really is a solid attachment.  I really love this modification because I can now use and size light that I want and will never have to pay the high price that Aerogrow charges for replacement bulbs.

Below is a video I made to walk you through step by step on how to modify your own Aerogarden.  Enjoy and happy growing!
